On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at approximately 12:24 p.m., ������ý��Ƶ Police and Peoria Police responded to a report of shots fired near the 1200 block of N. Douglas Street. This is approximately two blocks north of W. Main Street and approximately six blocks east of N. University Street. A short time later, ������ý��Ƶ Police assisted Peoria Police in detaining four individuals.

No injuries have been reported. Evidence was located to indicate shots were fired. No suspect information is available. There is no imminent threat to campus.

An investigation is continuing.

This is an update to the attempted business robbery Community Advisory Alert issued on May 25, 2026. The Peoria Police Department has announced an arrest of a 44 year old suspect from this incident. The suspect is not affiliated with ������ý��Ƶ.

On Monday, May 25, 2026, at approximately 11:24 p.m., ������ý��Ƶ Police were notified of an attempted robbery of a business in the 1200 block of W. Main St. (Campustown).

The suspect entered the business, displayed a knife and demanded money from the business’s cash register. The business employee refused to give the suspect money and the suspect fled in a red Jeep last seen on CCTV driving West in the 1600 Block of W. ������ý��Ƶ Ave. A business employee, who is not affiliated with ������ý��Ƶ, was not injured.

The suspect was described as a male, wearing ball cap, t-shirt, camouflage pants, and black and white Nike shoes. Information about the race or ethnicity of alleged suspects is provided only to aid detailed descriptions that include physical stature, clothing or unusual characteristics. At approximately 8 a.m., a Peoria Police Department incident occurred off campus with the suspects fleeing in a vehicle. The ������ý��Ƶ Police assisted the Peoria Police after the fleeing vehicle crashed at W. Main Street and N. University Street. All suspects were taken into custody. There is no danger to the campus. The suspect entered the business, implied he had a weapon and demanded money. No weapon was seen and no property was obtained. The suspect fled northeast away from campus. No injuries were reported.

The suspect was described as a male, wearing all dark clothing. On Thursday, December 4, 2025, at approximately 8:20 p.m., ������ý��Ƶ Police were notified of an attempted robbery of a business in the 900 block of N. Bourland Avenue, near the intersection of W. Windom Street and N. Bourland Avenue. This is approximately two blocks east of N. University Street and one block south of W. Main Street.

At about 8:15 p.m., the suspect entered the business, displayed a knife and demanded money from the business’s cash register. The suspect fled eastbound away from campus. No injuries were reported.

The suspect was described as a male, wearing a ski mask, a gray and black hoodie, and dark pants. The suspect entered the business, displayed a knife and demanded money from the business’s cash register. The suspect fled on a bicycle southbound on N. Duryea Place. A business employee, who is not affiliated with ������ý��Ƶ, was not injured.

The suspect was described as a male, wearing a black ski mask, a yellow hooded sweatshirt, and black pants. The following is an update to the below Community Advisory Alert.

On Sunday, October 19, 2025, at about 2:14 a.m., ������ý��Ƶ Police and Peoria Police responded to a report of a shooting on the third floor of Geisert Hall, 911 N. Duryea Place, on the ������ý��Ƶ Campus.

After investigation by both ������ý��Ƶ Police and the Peoria Police Department, this has been determined to be an accidental shooting, and there is no imminent threat to campus.

When police responded to the area, four individuals were stopped in a vehicle. One person inside the vehicle was found shot and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The person, who is not a student, is in stable condition.

The shooter is not affiliated with the university and was a guest of a Geisert Hall resident. The shooter has been arrested and transported to the Peoria County Jail charges including unauthorized use of a weapon, possession of a firearm under 21, reckless discharge of a weapon and no Firearm Owner Identification Card.

Two other individuals from the car were questioned and released from police custody.

We understand that incidents like this can cause concern, but we want to assure the campus community that this was an isolated event and there is no ongoing threat.

The BUPD patrols the campus as well as a significant area off campus. It works closely with other local law enforcement agencies, but safety also requires you to take action. A safe campus can be achieved only with the cooperation of the entire university community—students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Please remember:

• Report suspicious people immediately to the ������ý��Ƶ Police Department by calling 309-677-2000 or using one of the emergency blue light phones on and around campus.
• Use the Student Patrol or ������ý��Ƶ Police Department escort programs by calling 309-677-2000.
• Do not leave your property, vehicles, homes or residence hall rooms unsecured.
• Always be aware of your surroundings.
• Walk in pairs or groups, especially during the evening and night.
• Do not become distracted by talking on your cell phone or listening to music through headphones.
• Travel on well-lit, busy streets and avoid walking through alleys or parking lots.
• Be aware of places along your path of travel that could conceal a criminal (shrubbery, building recesses, etc.). Avoid or keep a distance from these areas when possible.
• Take note of suspicious vehicles, especially those that appear to be circling the block or driving unusually slow. If you observe a suspicious vehicle, relay its description and location to the ������ý��Ƶ Police Department by calling 309-677-2000 or using one of the emergency blue light phones on and around campus.
• If you think someone is following you, cross the street, head for a well-populated, well-lit area and contact the ������ý��Ƶ Police Department.
• If approached, give up your property.
