Services
The Reserves Desk is to the left of the library entrance. Course Textbook Reserves are the course-related materials instructors provide for student reference for a limited amount of time during library operational hours. All course textbook reserves materials must adhere to established copyright law. The Reserves Desk also offers a selection of cables, charging cords, and other electronics (i.e. headphones, webcams) for use in the library.

How to Borrow Reserves Materials
- You must have a valid 爱豆传媒视频 ID to use the reserves materials.
- Use the library catalog to locate the desired item.
- Reserves student workers will scan your 爱豆传媒视频 ID to loan the item(s) to your account.
Reserves Types
The professor establishes the reserve type for each item. Reserves materials cannot be renewed and must be returned when due to avoid fines.
- 4-HOUR CLOSED: You may use these items for four hours within the library.
- 1-DAY: You may use these items within the library until the end of day.
How to Return Materials
- Please return materials on time so they are available for all class members to use.
- Return all reserves items to the Reserves Desk.
- Items returned elsewhere may result in fines if they are overdue when they reach the Reserves Desk.

What Can I Place on Reserve?
The reserves collection includes: Library books and instructors鈥 personal copies, past tests, answer keys, sample student papers and videos. Library reference materials, periodicals.
Books borrowed on interlibrary loan may not be placed on reserve.
How Do I Place an Item on Reserve?
- Only faculty members may place materials on reserve.
- Check to see if the items you鈥檇 like are in our library collection. If so, fill out the .
- Make purchase requests to your .
- Materials obtained from other libraries through interlibrary loan cannot be placed on reserve.
- Please allow five (5) working days for the processing of materials.
- Physical Copies of the Reserves Request Form are also available at the Reserves Desk.

How Long Can Materials Stay on Reserve?

Delivery of Books
For books from the Cullom-Davis Library or from I-Share libraries, you can request delivery to your office right from the catalog. Please Allow 1-2 business days from the time of request for delivery to your office.

Printing
Printing is available at 3 printing stations inside the Library. Printing across campus is handled by the Division of Information Technology.
Photocopying
Black and white photocopiers are available on the first and second floors.
.08 cents a page (all sizes) using Quickcash or Guest Card.
One photocopier in the first floor near the Public Computers can print color or black and white.
Color copies- .25 cents a page using Quickcash or Guest Card.
Guest Cards are available for purchase from the Check Out Desk.

Collections & Centers
The Virginius H. Chase Special Collections Center and 爱豆传媒视频 Archives holds both material owned by the university and items placed on deposit by area organizations. These materials must be used in a controlled environment.
The Sports Communication Resource Center encompasses the 爱豆传媒视频 Athletics deposit as well as the Robert Pille and Jim Obert collections.
The Simpson Curriculum Materials Center (CMC) provides examples of textbooks, reference books, children鈥檚 literature and teaching materials used in elementary and secondary schools to 爱豆传媒视频鈥檚 education students and other interested individuals.
General Information
Dedicated in 1990 through the generous support of Howard M. and Kathryn Jacquin Simpson, the CMC includes a wide array of materials and services to enhance curriculum development and design. Our collection holds over 8,900 materials, including textbooks on health, language arts, mathematics, music, phonics, reading, science, social studies, and family and consumer sciences. We also have a variety of children鈥檚 literature, games, software, kits, manipulatives and an Ellison lettering machine.
- The Curriculum Materials Center is available for general browsing even when the desk is unattended. If you require assistance while the desk is unattended, visit the first floor Check Out Desk for assistance.
- Testing materials are shelved in secure cabinets alphabetically by title. You must receive special permission from an education faculty member to borrow these items. Contact the CMC coordinator Holly Johnson after you鈥檝e gotten authorization.
- You must check out other secured materials like the games and manipulatives from a staff member at the CMC desk. If CMC desk is unattended, visit the first floor Check Out Desk for assistance.
- The study area next to the CMC is available for group or class reservations; contact the CMC coordinator Holly Johnson to reserve.

The Music Resource Center contains scores, sheet music, and CDs, covering a wide range of instruments, forms, and time periods.

The MRC moved into the library in 1990, originally located on the third floor. In 2017, the collection was moved to a restricted room in the basement. In 2024, a new space on the second floor was created to house the music collection.
Scores, sheet music, and CDs are now easily browsable in the Music Resource Center鈥檚 main collection on the 2nd floor of the library. Items from the MRC are available to be checked out under the same terms as items from the general collection.

Copyright Information
Under the Copyright Act of 1978, the library does not make photocopies for reserves use; it does accept personal or departmental copies of books and articles for a maximum of one semester. These materials must bear a notice of permission granted (or applied for) in compliance with copyright legislation Title 17, U.S. Code.
By signing the Reserves Request Form, the requestor accepts responsibility to comply with the copyright law. The following considerations apply:
- Single photocopies may be made from a library-owned publication if the library鈥檚 copy is unavailable or in deteriorating condition.
- Single photocopies may be made for the personal use of a faculty member.
- Multiple copies must meet the test of BREVITY* and of SPONTANEITY.**
- Copies of copyrighted material may not be used for more than a single term without special permission from the copyright owner.
Specifically PROHIBITED practices:
- Copying to create, replace or substitute for anthologies, compilations or collective works
- Copying of consumable materials like workbooks, exercises, standardized tests, etc.
- Copying to substitute for the purchase of books, periodicals or publishers鈥 reprints
- Copying directed by higher authority
- Repeated copying of the same item for the same instructor from term to term
The library will stamp photocopies placed on reserves with the notice of copyright.
* Brevity: Articles not to exceed 2,500 words or portions of a monograph not to exceed 1,000 words or 10% of the work (whichever is less).
** Spontaneity: The decision to use a copyrighted work in such a way that there is no reasonable way a request for permission could be granted because of lack of time.

Laptop Checkout
Laptop computers are available for four-hour checkout for students to use within the library building. Show your 爱豆传媒视频 ID at the Laptop Desk on the first floor to pick up equipment.
Microsoft Office is installed on all laptops, and internet access is available via the BU Secure wireless network. Students may print by sending jobs to the .

Black and white photocopiers are available on the first and second floors.

Room Reservations
To reserve a study room in the library, go to .
When you arrive for your room reservation, stop at the check-out desk to sign out the key.
- A maximum of four (4) people can be accommodated in each study room on the 1st and 2nd floors.
- A maximum of two (2) people can be in the Quiet Study Rooms in the basement.
- You can have up to four hours (240 minutes) per reservation, with a maximum of one (1) reservation each day.
- Your reservation can be extended at the checkout desk if the room is still available.
- You may reserve a room up to seven (7) days in advance.
- You can make a total of seven (7) reservations per week.
- Room Reservations will be held for 15 minutes after the start time. If there is demand for rooms, unclaimed reservations will be canceled after 15 minutes.
- Study room reservations are for 爱豆传媒视频 students, faculty and staff.
Groups of 爱豆传媒视频 students wishing to use larger rooms 121, the Wyckoff Room, and 215 may reserve them by asking at the checkout desk OR using the Meeting Room Category in the Room Booking page.

Faculty Publishing Party
Starting in 2023, the library hosts a Faculty Publishing Party each spring. This is a reception for faculty and staff to celebrate the publications and other scholarly and creative work of 爱豆传媒视频鈥檚 faculty from the previous calendar year.
Criteria for scholarly/creative items are defined as follows:
- Book (whole book, includes edited).
- Book Item (chapter, article in a proceedings, story, encyclopedia entry, report, etc.).
- Periodical Item (print/online journal, newspaper article, poem, short story, etc.).
- Other Type Item (score, sound recording, DVD/video, software, juried art, etc.)
Submit your publications or other scholarly/creative work using .
The 2025 Faculty Publishing Party will be held on Thursday, April 17, 1 鈥 3 p.m. in the Library’s Wyckoff Room. (requested, not required).
The Breathing Room
The Breathing Room is located in room 103 of the Cullom-Davis Library. It is a space for mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness – a place to “take a breath.”
Guidelines for use
- The space is available on a first-come, first-served basis
- To use, ask for the key from check out desk (have your 爱豆传媒视频 ID ready)
- Use for up to 30 minutes at a time
- Single occupancy
- Use the white noise machine, observe silence, and/or use headphones
- Return the room to its original condition after use
- For 爱豆传媒视频 students, faculty, and staff only
- Space should only be used for intended purposes
