Practicum Concert

The °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Music Practicum presents “Spring” – a student-run concert with performances from solo artists, bands and dance groups. All the performers are students. Admission is free and open to the public!
The Big Band Music of Todd Kelly

7:30 p.m. | Dingeldine Music Center
The Big Band, under the direction of Kelly, will present a concert of his compositions and arrangements. Admission is $5 for the general public and free for students. Kelly is the chair of the Department of Music, teaches trumpet and directs the °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Jazz Ensemble.
Student Recitals
Sunday | April 3
3 p.m. | Dingeldine Music Center
Stephanie Cannon, a °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ violin performance major, will present her senior recital. She’ll be collaborating with pianist Ji Hyun Kim for the performance. The recital will feature works by Bach, Mozart, Lalo, Brahms and Tchaikovsky. Stephanie is a student of Marcia Henry Liebenow and is preparing for a career teaching violin by the Suzuki method. She has served as assistant concertmaster and concertmaster of the °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Symphony Orchestra and is a violinist in the Ravvivando String Quartet. Her performance at °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ is free and open to the public.

Blake Ayers, a °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ music business major and marketing minor, will present his senior piano recital. He is a student of Chee Hyeon Choi. This recital will include pieces in several different styles. Admission is free and open to the public for this performance.

Dawson Ouellette, a °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ music performance and composition double major, will present his senior percussion recital. He is a student of Peggy Bonner. This recital will feature snare drum solos, drum-set and multi-percussion works, jazz combo music, mallet percussion material, as well as pieces performed with the °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Percussion Ensemble. The recital is free and open to the public.
Hansel and Gretel

Students enrolled in °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ’s opera workshop course and the members of °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ’s treble choir, Cantus, will present Hänsel und Gretel. Join the cast in this retelling of the traditional fairy tale. The performance is directed by Kerry Walters with Jonathan Giblin on piano. Tickets are available at the door the night of the event and are free for students and $5 for the public.

The °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Chorale hosts “°®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Does Broadway!” Come enjoy a selection of Broadway’s greatest hits performed by °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ students. Admission is free and open to the public. There will be a goodwill offering to benefit the °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Chorale for those interested.
New Music Concert

°®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ’s Spring 2022 New Music Concert will take place on April 18. The concert is free to attend and all are welcome. The program will be comprised of original music written by °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ student composers including Xavier A. Chapman, Allie Dean, David Freesmeyer, Annie Fu, Andy Gordon, Carlos Lalonde, Liam McGinnis, Seth Metcalfe, Matthew Moorman, Dawson Ouellette, Kelsey Schrag, Jonah Sendlin and Josie Wenckus.
Hilltop Combo

The °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Hilltop Combo, under the direction of Crystal Rebone and Dan Burke, will present a concert. The event will also be livestreamed on . The group includes Miles Rogers on tenor saxophone, Blake Ayers on piano, Quin Cheek on bass and Dawson Ouellette on drums. They will present music for small jazz ensemble in a variety of styles. Admission is $5 for the general public and free for students.
Symphonic Band and Symphonic Winds Concert

The °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Symphonic Band and Symphonic Winds will present their spring concert on April 22. Admission is $10 for the general public and free for students. This special concert will feature guest conductor Dario Sotelol, guest piano soloist and composer as well as °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ student percussion soloist and composer Dawson Ouellette. The °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Symphonic Winds will perform Isackson’s piece titled “Serious Music” and Isackson and Oullette will be soloists for Isackson’s “An Evolving Project.” The concert will be rounded out with performances of music by Sydney Guillaume and Darrell Brown.
Guitar Ensemble

Michael W. Hull will direct the °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Guitar Ensemble in a concert featuring music from the Renaissance, romantic and modern eras. The Illinois Central College Guitar Ensemble will perform with the group, as well as special guests from the Bloomington/Normal Childbloom Guitar Program. Additionally, there will be featured soloists on the program. Hull will perform his arrangement (for guitar ensemble) of the second movement of Manuel Ponce’s “Concierto del Sur.” Another highlight of the program will be Leo Brouwer’s “Cuban Landscape with Rain.” This concert is open to the public and admission is free.
°®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ High School Honor Band

This year’s °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ High School Honor Band performance will feature the top high school band students from throughout central Illinois. The concert will also feature a performance by the °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Symphonic Winds. Additional guests at the concert include Dario Sotelol and . Admission is $5 for the general public and free for students.
Groove Project/Vocal Jazz
Wednesday | April 27
7:30 p.m. | Dingeldine Music Center
The °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Groove Project and Vocal Jazz, under the direction of Todd Kelly and Lara Reem, will present their spring concert. The Groove Project is a New Orleans-style brass band that learns all of its music aurally. Vocal Jazz is °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ’s newest jazz group and will perform jazz standards and music from the Great American Songbook. Admission for this concert is $5 for the general public and free for students.
