and  honor society explored the friendly skies’ corporate opportunities during a tour of United Airlines’ Chicago headquarters.

The tour showed how accountants and internal auditors impacted corporate business.

and  double major Alexis Lucas ’18, of Columbus, Ohio, appreciated the experience as a frequent flyer herself.

“Seeing behind the scenes was interesting because I fly so often,” she said. “It showed us that corporate accounting has a direct impact on a company and its operation.”

Students saw how accountants and internal auditors were integrated into United’s flight operations center and learned their roles in business operations.

“We learned that  is a good option because auditors are working with all the different departments in the company to help them advance and become stronger,” Lucas said.

“During lunch, we had some alumni come and speak to the students,” Accounting Associate Professor Dr.  said. “An internal auditing manager, a financial representative manager, and a risk assessment associate spoke for about an an hour on each of their different career tracks. Students were getting a very tangible sense of what each of the different career tracks could be for them in the world of accounting.”
