Author Sharon Flake to Give Reading at °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ

Author Sharon Flake will give a reading of her work on Wednesday, February 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Peplow Pavilion, located in the Hayden-Clark Alumni Center on the °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ campus. The event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ’s Intellectual and Cultural Activities Committee and the Department of English.
Flake is known for such works as The Skin I’m In and Unstoppable Octobia May. She is the recipient of three Coretta Scott King Awards, and has received ALA Notable and Best Books for Young Adults citations from the American Library Association. Books will be sold before and after the event.
To prepare for the event, Manual High School students and °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ student volunteers are participating in book groups. All ninth graders in composition classes at Manual High School are reading The Skin I’m In with books they received from a grant from °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓÆµ’s Teacher Education Professional Development School Partnership.
Flake also will conduct a writing workshop at Peoria High School with high school writers.
