With mid-term elections just a week away, teams from five local high schools will participate in a Congressional Insight Simulation program – and learn whether they will “win re-election” – at °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓƵ on Wednesday, October 29, starting at 8:30 a.m. in the Owens Professional Development Center in Westlake Hall on campus.

Facilitators with °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓƵ’s Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service (IPL) will lead teams from Metamora, Limestone, Peoria High, Notre Dame, and East Peoria high schools in the interactive, fast-paced program as part of their study of American Government. The performance-oriented computer simulation game immerses students in the world of a federal legislator, providing them an opportunity to work in the high-pressured environment of legislators and federal staff members. The 3-hour program covers the two-year term of office of a member of Congress during 11 rounds of timed decision-making. At the end of the challenge, participants learn whether they have won re-election.

The Congressional Insight Program was created by the National Association of Manufacturers to increase knowledge of how the political system works. The IPL engages in a variety of activities to develop ethical, bipartisan, civil and collaborative leaders for careers in public service and promotes civic engagement among °®¶¹´«Ã½ÊÓƵ students.
