Biography

Edward Lee Lamoureux received a B.A. from CSU, Long Beach (Speech, 1975), an M.A. from WSU, Pullman (Speech Communication, 1980), and a Ph.D. from the U of Oregon, Eugene (Rhetoric and Communication, 1985). He came to ������ý��Ƶ, in the Department of Communication, as Director of Basic Speech in 1985. In addition to the basic course, Ed taught Rhetorical Theory, Rhetorical Criticism, Small Group Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Researching Communication in Organizational Culture and other COM classes. Co-founder of the Multimedia Program, Ed taught courses in the Department of Interactive Media including Intellectual Property Law and New Media, Theories/Concepts/Practices in Interactive Media and Privacy in the Connected US. His research experiences and interests include ethnography/field research, rhetoric, religious communication, conversation, teaching and learning in virtual worlds and non-linear writing. His publications include books on IP law, privacy/surveillance as well as numerous journal articles and book reviews (primarily about rhetoric and communication). Ed’s creative production includes audio production (Ed created, wrote, and edited “Stories Behind the Scores with Chris Reynolds” for WCBU), web work and communication training via digital embellishments. Lamoureux served as Interim Associate Dean of CFA, Interim Director/Director of the Multimedia Program and was a member of the President’s Committee for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, founders of the Turner School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He taught the first online course at ������ý��Ƶ (by more than two years) and taught the first ������ý��Ƶ course(s) in virtual worlds (as Professor Beliveau in Second Life). Lamoureux was the editor of the Journal of Communication and Religion (Religious Communication Association) for two consecutive 3 year terms, 1998-2003 and now serves on its editorial board. Ed retired from ������ý��Ƶ as a Full Professor, Emeritus, in May, 2024. He is a singer/songwriter who sometimes appears at local venues. Ed is married (since 1981) to Cheryl; they have 4 adult children (Alexander, Samantha, Kate, Nicole) and 4 grandchildren (Warren, Fitz and Charlie Borne; Owen Edward Kelly).
