Pre-Med Coursework

Med School Prep I & II are seminar-style courses taught by faculty from the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP), UICOMP medical students, and ��ý��Ƶ faculty. These courses help you prepare for every stage of the med school journey, covering:

Application strategies and timelines
MCAT preparation tips
Medical student perspectives and mentoring
Exposure to real medical school classroom approaches

��ý��Ƶ’s Department of Biology and Mund-Lagowski Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry also offer majors that provide the foundation medical schools are looking for. You’ll build the scientific knowledge needed for the MCAT, and for success in your first year of medical school. Opportunities include:

Faculty-mentored research experiences
Volunteer and shadowing opportunities in Peoria hospitals
Collaboration with the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria
Active participation in pre-health student organizations

Early Assurance Program (EAP)

Through a special partnership with the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOM), ��ý��Ƶ students can apply to the Early Assurance Program, which offers provisional acceptance to UICOM while completing a bachelor’s degree at ��ý��Ƶ. Program highlights include:

Open to juniors who have completed Med School Prep I and meet GPA and coursework criteria
Up to five students accepted each year
Acceptance applies to the Peoria campus only
Exclusively for ��ý��Ƶ students

Pre-Med Advising

Dedicated Pre-Med advisors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Education and Health Sciences guide you every step of the way, from course planning to application submission. Your advisor will help you:

Choose coursework that meets medical school prerequisites
Gain clinical and research experience
Stay on track with the medical school application timeline

Pre-Med Student Organizations

Get involved, connect with peers, and make a difference through ��ý��Ƶ’s pre-health student clubs:

BU MED: Supports Pre-Med and Pre-PA students through leadership opportunities, service projects, and professional development.
Global Medical Training (GMT): Coordinates international medical mission trips, giving students hands-on experience in global healthcare.
Multicultural Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS): Provides a supportive community for underrepresented pre-health students to connect with peers and professionals.
Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED): A national health preprofessional honor society open to all majors interested in healthcare careers.
